Peterson Birds of North America

Peterson Birds is a new kind of birding field guide. It’s a single app — you need buy it only once — that runs on any Apple mobile device. The user interface is uniquely tailored to the size of the screen being used, but information provided is identical. This means you can have access to all of your birding information whether you’re are at home with an iPad or in the field with an iPhone or iPod touch.
This is the first time iPhone and iPad users have had access to the full content of Roger Tory Peterson’s classic bird guide, Peterson Field Guide to Birds of North America. The app does a wonderful job of displaying Peterson’s superb illustrations, including the unique Peterson Identification System and the succinct species descriptions that made Peterson Field Guides a model for all bird guides that followed.

Decades of research, organization, design and expertise have gone into making Peterson Field Guide to Birds of North America one of the most highly regarded, and absolutely the most loved, birding field guides in the US. At Appweavers, we have taken this tremendous resource and applied all of that understanding to the new app. We also added information from seven other Peterson Field Guides, including PFG Eastern Birds’ Nests, Western Birds’ Nests, Hawks of North America, Hummingbirds of North America, Warblers, Feeder Birds, and the Peterson Reference Guide to Molt in North American Birds.

Users of the PFG Birds of North America book will instantly recognize the organization and the look and feel of the app. Like the book, we present illustrations of similar species on a single screen for faster identification. We also provide bird songs and maps, so users can further narrow down an identification by range and by sound. And we’ve added the ability to record sightings, check birds off a life list and make new lists, search for birds by state, month, habitat, etc., and customize the interface to suit the user’s specific needs.
